Indiana Sports Rundown – May 7th

With so many news items coming Monday, I figured it would be easiest to put them all in one place.

+ First, on this day in 1995, Reggie Miller scored eight points in 8.9 seconds against the Knicks. A moment Pacers fans will never forget.

+ Pacers associate head coach is going to be highly considered by multiple NBA teams with head coach vacancy’s. The Charlotte Bobcats have requested permission to speak with him, according to SI’s Sam Amick, but Shaw has asked to wait to talk until after Indiana’s season is complete.

+ While on the Pacers, about 700 tickets still remain for game 5 on Tuesday against the Magic. The Pacers can close out the series and move onto the second round with a win. Tickets available at Ticketmaster.com and on StubHub.com.

+ The Colts are headed back to Anderson for training camp. Owner Jim Irsay had talked about his desire to get a long-term deal in place but at least for the short-term, their destination is known. Players report on July 28 and camp opens Sunday, July 29th.

“Our staff made several visits to the Anderson campus and we were extremely pleased with its amenities and layout,” GM Ryan Grigson said in the release. “The university staff is tremendous and we trust their experience having conducted past camps. We feel Anderson is in a great location to connect with Colts fans around the state of Indiana, which is one of our biggest priorities.”

+ Andrew Luck cannot practice at the Colts facility until he wraps up his school at Stanford on June 7th, which is on a quarter-system. Luck will miss the team’s 10-day organized team activities but he told the media over the weekend at rookie minicamp that owner Jim Irsay offered his private jet for him and receivers Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie to practice and get on the same page.

Tonight however, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen noted on NFL32 that it would be against the new collective bargaining agreement for Luck to do so. So there’s that.

+ New England Patriots tackle Matt Light has retired from the NFL after 11 seasons. He played at Purdue from 1996-2000.

+ The Indiana Fever had their media day today. They host San Antonio at home for their final preseason game on Wednesday at noon, before opening the regular season May 19th at home.

+ New IU women’s basketball coach Curt Miller has picked up another transfer. Northern Illinois’ Claire Jakubicek, who was named the MAC Freshman of the Year this past season while playing for former Indiana coach Kathi Bennett, will transfer from the Huskies to Hoosiers, according to NIU student newspaper, the Northern Star.
