Forbes: Pacers 22nd most valuable NBA franchise

Forbes published their annual valuations of NBA franchises on Wednesday and the Pacers are slotted 22nd of 30 teams, valued at $1.175 billion.

The Pacers’ value increased 34 percent over last year — and 48 percent over the last two years — when they were valued at $800 million in 2017. During that time, the Pacers opened a new $50 million practice facility, the St. Vincent Center, and launched an eSports team, Pacers Gaming.

Their year-to-year value increase was sixth-best among all teams.

For the first time, all 30 franchise are worth at least $1 billion as values have tripled over the last three years. The average franchise value is $1.65 billion, Forbes says.

It’s an important to keep in mind that these are estimates, and not a real value. But it does provide perspective on the health of The Association and its member teams.

The first observation made from the full chart below is that location is everything. The New York Knicks, despite their lack of success and off-court issues, is atop the list with an estimate value of $3.6 billion. That’s an incredible value. The Spurs, the most valuable small-market franchise, rank ninth.
