Don Fischer voted Indiana Sportscaster of the Year for the 25th time

Don Fischer, the Voice of the Indiana Hoosiers, was named Indiana Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

It’s the 25th year that Fischer — in his 45th season at IU calling football and men’s basketball games — has earned the title, easily the most in association history. The selection is based on voting from members of NSMA.

Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune was voted Indiana Sportswriter of the Year for the first time.

Mark Boyle, who has broadcast Indiana Pacers games for 30 years, was named sportscaster of the year in each of the past three years. Gregg Doyel was named sportswriter of the year in 2015 and 2016; Mike Chappell, then of the Indianapolis Star (now CBS4/FOX59), was named sportswriter of the year in 2014.

According to IU, Fischer has broadcast nearly 1,900 games, including three NCAA basketball championships and 10 bowl games.

In addition to the state award winners, NSMA also named CBS Sports’ Kevin Harlan as the 2017 National Sportscaster of the Year and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski as the 2017 National Sportswriter of the Year.

Fischer and all of the recipients will be honored at their annual awards weekend, set for June 23-25, 2018 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
