Michael Grady’s departure to New York has the Pacers now in the need of a new public address announcer for all home games.
For the upcoming 2017-18 season, that’s 42 games guaranteed: 41 regular season games, plus one exhibition contest.
Now, don’t expect to live off of this money either. It likely will pay about $100 per game, but the best perk is sitting courtside for all NBA games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse — and those seats are rare anymore. Also, keep in mind that there are only 30 of these gigs in the NBA.
So here you have it, a rare opening in Central Indiana sports. This hire is believed to be the fourth individual to be the full-time voice of the team inside the area.
Bill Donnella was the PA announcer through the franchise’s first nine seasons. Then, Reb Porter — Two-AHH! — was behind the microphone when the team moved from the ABA to the NBA in 1976. Grady, the PA guy for the Indiana Fever for nearly a decade, took over on a full-time basis once Porter retired following the 2009-10 season.
