Pacers Last Week: Sept. 11 — Two signed camp deals, Simon issues statement, McGinnis goes into the HOF

A lot happens each week with the Pacers and it’s not easy to stay on top of it. Introducing a new weekly feature, Pacers Last Week, which should help keep you up-to-date on all things Pacers.

Media day is exactly two weeks away…

  • Lance Stephenson celebrated his 27th birthday on Sept. 5.
  • Owner Herb Simon issued the following statement on the Los Angeles Lakers and tampering with Paul George:
    • “Contrary to a published report, I would like to emphatically state that neither I nor the Indiana Pacers have ever considered any legal action toward the NBA or the Los Angeles Lakers regarding the recent decision and penalty concerning tampering charges. We agree with the NBA’s findings and we want to put this issue behind us. Even though the Pacers were put in a tough position, we feel extremely fortunate to end up with two exceptional players in Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. Their youth and talent, when coupled with our returning players and other players acquired over the summer, offer tremendous promise for our franchise and our fans.”
  • NBA sent its top social media manager to Indianapolis to hang around the facility for a day. Soon, you’ll be able to catch Glenn Robinson III on NBA TV’s Inside Stuff.
  • They signed 6-foot-8 forward DeQuan Jones and 6-5 guard Trey McKinney-Jones to camp deals. McKinney-Jones was with the Pacers for free agent/rookie camp and took part in the Orlando Summer League. He averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
  • Team announced that Myles Turner’s fan section, Turner’s Block, would return. Replacing Rodney Stuckey’s section, formerly Area 55, would be the Born Ready Crew for Lance Stephenson. The final day to submit an application is 11:59 pm on Wednesday (Sept. 13).
  • Bojan Bogdanovic and Croatia are out of the FIBA EuroBasket 2017. They lost on Sunday to Russia, 101-78, in the round of 16. Bogdanovic led all with 28 points, four rebounds, and two steals. He was 10 of 16 from the floor. Pacers officials can now breathe a sign of relief as Bogdanovic got out of EuroBasket 2017 without injury.
  • A familiar voice is leaving the Pacers. Stay tuned.
  • (From the Fever side): Indy’s own Katie Douglas was in Bristol Sunday to be the studio analyst during ESPN2’s coverage of the WNBA Finals.
  • George McGinnis became the fifth Pacer to be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame, joining Mel Daniels, Roger Brown, Slick Leonard, and Reggie Miller. That happened over the weekend in Springfield, Mass. McGinnis, 67, was presented by presented Artis Gilmore (‘11), Reggie Miller (‘12), Bobby Leonard (‘14), and Spencer Haywood (‘15).
