Mad Ants lose rights to Marquis Teague, Omari Johnson to Hustle in G League expansion draft

The Fort Wayne Mad Ants lost the player rights to guard Marquis Teague and forward Omari Johnson in the G League Expansion Draft, held on Wednesday afternoon. The Memphis Hustle acquired their rights.

The Hustle were one of four teams, along with the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (L.A. Clippers), Erie BayHawks (Atlanta) and Wisconsin Herd (Milwaukee), to participate in the expansion draft.

Each G League team could protect the rights of up to nine players, and lost no more than two players in the draft.

The Mad Ants acquired Marquis Teague — the younger brother of Jeff, who is now with the Minnesota Timberwolves — and a third-round pick last March from the Oklahoma City Blue by sending a 2017 first-round pick (via Maine).

The 24-year-old out of the University of Kentucky averaged 12 points and 4.8 assists in 12 games last season. He started just once.
