Ninth annual Celebrity Softball Game will include key Pacers — past and present

One of the summer highlights for sports fans in Indianapolis is the Caroline Symmes Celebrity Softball Game. The ninth annual game will be held on Thursday, June 15 at Victory Field.

The night is all in good fun, and there is a great cause that benefits: Indiana Children’s Wish Fund. They grant wishes to Indiana children, ages 3-18, who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

For the third straight year, Robert Mathis, who retired following the 2016 season, is hosting the game along with Paul George of the Pacers. And there’s a great lineup of Pacers scheduled to be on hand, according to the event coordinator.

Pacers greats Jermaine O’Neal (2000-08) and Danny Granger (2005-14) are expected to be in attendance, and they’ll be joined by current players Myles Turner, Joe Young, coach Nate McMillan, and a few special guests.

(Keep in mind, these are always subject to change.)

Robert Mathis has generously served as the host of this event from the beginning.

Turner prepped for the big game by hitting the batting cage on Wednesday. George returned from California Wednesday via a private jet.

From the Colts, joining Mathis will be three-time Pro Bowler T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief, Gary Brackett, and retired punter (but still fan favorite) Pat McAfee. Typically, most of the team’s rookies also participate.

The Indiana Fever host the Atlanta Dream so none of their players can make it.

Unlike in previous years, there will not be a Home Run Derby. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:00 pm.

Schedule:
5:30 p.m.: Gates open
7:00 p.m.: Seven-inning game begins

Tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased online or at the Victory Field Box Office.
