Paul George’s latest PG1 colorway is a tribute to Tamika Catchings

Yet another different colorway of the PG1, Paul George’s signature shoe, becomes available on Friday, May 19 at 10:00 am ET. Like each of his shoes, this one carries great meaning.

According to Nike, this Glacier Grey PG1 is being dubbed the ‘Catch-24’ … for Tamika Catchings, the former Indiana Fever star who retired last fall after 15 seasons in the WNBA.

“PG knows that in the city of Indianapolis, the only #24 jersey that matters is the one worn by retired Indiana Fever legend, Tamika Catchings. Holding themselves to the same gold standard both on the court and off, they formed a special bond through their time together in Indy. ‘Catch 24’ celebrates PG’s deep respect for Catchings, one of the game’s greatest, and his desire to one day see his name and number in the rafters alongside hers.”

In August, 2014, George announced that he was changing his number from 24 to 13. Mostly, it was for branding purposes, to be PG-13. But he said several times that Catchings should be the only one wearing No. 24 in Indianapolis.

PG and Catch took a photo on the team plane home from the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Her number will be retired, hung in the rafters at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on June 24th.

These two have bonded over several things: Being No. 24, Nike athletes, a leader for their franchise and an elite player in their leagues, and a gold medal winner. Both George and Catchings returned home from Rio with a gold medal. It was George’s first, of course. But it was Catchings’ fourth…

Tamika is well aware of the tribute shoes, which could be worn by both Pacers and Fever players. Nike launched the PG1 signature shoes in January. They are the most affordable signature basketball shoe, checking in at $110.
