Collin Hartman returning for Indiana Hoosiers

The Indiana Hoosiers’ fifth-year senior-to-be, Collin Hartman, has decided to return for his final season of eligibility.

It is welcoming news for new head coach Archie Miller. Miller, who is less than a week into his new job at the helm of the men’s basketball team, seems to already be making an impression upon his inherited roster.

Former Indiana coach Tom Crean announced weeks ago that Hartman had options about his future and the decision was ultimately his. Speculation grew that the former Indianapolis Cathedral High School product would forego another season donning the cream and crimson to pursue other opportunities.

Hartman sat out all of the 2016-17 season following his second knee injury as a Hoosier. He was provided a medical redshirt to use if he desired to return for another year.

During the 2015-16 season, Hartman averaged five points and just over three rebounds a game. Not jaw-dropping statistics by some measures, but it’s his movement without the ball, defense and hustle that have turned him into a fan favorite in his four years in Bloomington.

In related news, junior James Blackmon Jr. is reportedly set to gauge his NBA interest for a second straight year. Blackmon does not plan to hire an agent.

Blackmon’s decision should not come as a surprise. Under new NCAA and NBA rules, current college players are permitted to workout for and speak with representatives from professional teams without affecting their collegiate status.

Not hiring an agent gives Blackmon the option to return to Indiana for his senior season – in essence, he’ll likely base his decision on information he receives from NBA scouts and front offices, similar to this time last year.
