Jeremy Evans, Robbie Hummel sign with BC Khimki in Russia

Jeremy Evans and Robbie Hummel have signed with BC Khimki in Russia for the rest of their season, the club announced.

This is a nice, soft landing for Evans, the Pacers’ final cut for their 15-man opening day roster. Despite not being on roster now into the regular season, he still will receive $1,227,286 in contract guarantees from the Pacers. So, he’s not hurting.

This opportunity may be a good way to earn additional money while also working to get back to 100 percent. As Evans explained to me during camp, he was surprised at how much he was able to do seven months after having arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

“Even just getting out here, it’s been what, seven months, maybe, just building confidence,” he said. “Every day my confidence is getting stronger.”

Hummel, meanwhile, was in camp with the Denver Nuggets. Hummel aveared 2.4 points, 1.0 rebound, and 1.0 assist per game in seven preseason games. He shot 31.6 percent from the field, and a measly 23.1 percent from downtown.

These contracts then allow the players the chance to return to the NBA later in the season.
