Knox Indy Pro Am set to return after one-year hiatus

Next month will be the Knox Indy Pro Am's seventh year.

Next month will be the Knox Indy Pro Am’s seventh year.

Carlos Knox was out of the country last summer/early fall, tied up coaching a professional team across the border in Canada.

He spent the last year, though, working to revamp and enhance the experience at the Knox Indy Pro Am. And, as he informed me, plans are in place for it to return for a seventh year next month.

“I’m always happy to provide a fun, free, safe atmosphere for players to compete at a high level each summer. It is a great spot for them to work on their craft, work on their skills for the upcoming season,” Knox told VigilantSports.com.

The Pro Am was first created to give college and professional players alike a place to play highly competitive games against quality talent in the summer, the quietest time for these players.

Rather than these guys playing pick-up games with friends, at their local gym, or with a group not even large enough to field two five-man teams, Knox created a solution to their problem.

The Knox Indy Pro Am is scheduled to run on select dates from July 26 to August 7.

On that final date, August 7, the Indiana and Purdue alumni game — annually the most popular event — will be held.

All games will be played up at Jonathan Byrd’s Fieldhouse at Grand Park in Westfield, which opened in January and features eight basketball courts. Knox is the Director of Training there, in addition to his role as Player Development Coach for the Indiana Fever.

“It is a state-of the art facility. It’s one of kind,” Knox said of the Fieldhouse. “It’s one of the greatest facilities in the midwest.”

The Knox Indy Pro Am is NCAA sanctioned so college guys may participate. Knox is hopeful that players from IUPUI, Butler, IU, Purdue, Indiana State, Ball State, and more will take part and use it to their advantage.

He is also eager to get local pros to play. Knox shared that he has been in talks with Myles Turner, Joe Young, and Glenn Robinson III of the Pacers, along with Trey Lyles (Utah Jazz), Gary Harris (Denver Nuggets), R.J. Hunter (Boston Celtics).

Knox asks that if you are interested in playing, check out their official website for more information.

As for fans: admission is free, with the exception being the Indiana-Purdue alumni game. Tickets for that one will be available at a later date.

The Dates:

Tuesday, July 26
Thursday, July 28
Saturday, July 30
Tuesday, August 2
Thursday, August 4
Saturday, August 6
Sunday, August 7
