Roy Hibbert opts in for 2015-16 season

Roy Hibbert has exercised his option for the 2015-16 season, a Pacers spokesman said Monday afternoon. The team received the necessary paperwork that he was required to submit before the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline on June 29th.

That’s answer No. 1.

The Pacers still have not heard anything from David West, who also has a player option for next season. Should he not file the necessary paperwork by the end of the day, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Hibbert has been with the Pacers his entire career, since 2008 when the Pacers made a draft-day trade with Toronto for him at No. 18 (and others).

Last Thursday, when the Pacers selected Myles Turner (11) and Joe Young (43) in the 2015 NBA Draft, Pacers President Larry Bird was asked about the two veteran Pacers with player options.

“It’s their decision,” he said. “It’s their choice what they’re going to do. We expect them both to opt in and go from there.”

When discussing Turner and the center position, coach Frank Vogel stressed that “minutes are going to be earned.”
