Colts inform Andrew Luck he’s their guy

The Colts have been sold on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck for awhile. Luck seemingly has been the Colts’ pick ever since they clinched the top spot in the draft next week. Now, they’ve told their future franchise player of their intentions.

One week before the 2012 NFL Draft, the Colts have reached out to Luck and informed him they will take him at the No. 1 spot, according to Adam Schefter and confirmed by Bob Kravitz.

This is nothing new, and no surprise, but it’s a relief to know for sure.

Owner Jim Irsay has kept fans and media hanging on, tweeting that they were deeply considering Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III as well. RGIII  refused to work out individually with any team and he did not meet with the Colts brass.

General Manager Ryan Grigson spoke with the media this week, before the draft, but wouldn’t divulge who they intend to draft. Only, that a decision has been made.

“We’ve known for a little while. We’ve done all our due diligence,” Grigson said Wednesday. “Unless there’s an unforeseen problem or something like that, we know what we’re doing.”

Ever since the Colts slide began last season, some fans began their campaign for Andrew Luck. All will become official in prime-time April 26th in New York. I expect Luck to fly to Indianapolis and be introduced in a Friday morning news conference.

The 22-year-old will have incredible pressure to come in, fill the void of Peyton Manning, and get this team back to their winning ways. He is very mature and well-spoken in his interviews so I expect him to be just fine.

After gutting the front office, losing Manning and cleaning up dead-weight on the roster, it is however, going to take a few years. Patience, Colts fans.
