Peyton Manning is always in the spotlight, but it was unique for the Colts franchise quarterback to share something so personal with the media.
Following the Colts 27-19 loss to Carolina, Peyton held eight-month son Marshall while giving postgame interviews. This from a superstar that didn’t even acknowledge his twins birth.
“He got baptized this morning, he and his sister (twin Mosley) so it was a big day today,” Manning said to the gathered media.
This move isn’t like Peyton, who makes every decision very methodically and with purpose. With his health still in question, it has me wondering if he is trying to enjoy every last moment as a professional football player. It has me wondering if he is tired of worrying about the little things and just wants to have fun with those that mean the most to him.
Manning had three surgeries in 19 months time. He hasn’t taken a snap this season, despite remaining on the Colts active roster. Many question when he will return, if at all. I believe Peyton doesn’t even know at this point. One’s neck and head are so critical and delicate that he may decide its not worth it to take another snap. I can’t blame him. He is great for the NFL and its fans, but his long-term health is not worth the risk. Hopefully his football career is not in jeopardy.
“I’ll probably check in with you all this week,” Manning said before leaving the facility. He has talked with the media for an extended period of time once a month since his latest surgery. The next update will be interesting to hear if progress is being made and if he is throwing the football.
Marshall and Mosley Manning were born on March 31st.
