Jake Query to replace Mark Patrick on WNDE

Jake Query returns to the airwaves with a weekly show.

Less than two weeks after Mark Patrick’s last show on 1260 WNDE in Indianapolis, the station has hired his successor.

Jake Query, 38, will be heard once again in Indianapolis, hosting the afternoon local sports talk show on WNDE.

“Derek Schultz will be on board with me,” Query tweeted. “And..it’ll be a VERY twitter friendly show.”

The show will debut August 15th and can be heard from 3-7 pm weekdays. Jake told me in a text that the show does not yet have a name.

WNDE (owned by Clear Channel Communication), is a 5,000 watt station, affiliated with Fox Sports. A formal announcement has not yet been made.

Jake and Derek Schultz, formerly of XL950 join forces to provide another perspective in the Circle City, and will directly compete with JMV of ESPN 1070 The Fan.

Previously, Query was a sports reporter and anchor on WRTV (ABC) in Indy before becoming the morning show host on WIBC, owned by Emmis Communications.

For the last couple of years, Jake has been a turn announcer on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, for every IndyCar series race.

Jake is an Indianapolis native, and a 1991 graduate of North Central High School. While there, he was on the broadcast for football and basketball games on 89.3 WJEL.

Derek Schultz grew up in Connecticut but he is a graduate of Indiana University. Since May of 2009, he has hosted “The Zone,” on XL950 replacing Greg Rakestraw. He has worn many hats with 950, serving as producer, on-air host, and website manager. Moving to WNDE, Schultz will have an on-air presence as the show’s producer.

This move changes the landscape of sports talk radio in Indianapolis once again. Just a few years ago it was Kravitz and Eddie on 1070 The Fan, JMV on WNDE and Greg Rakestraw on XL950. Less than two years later, none of the current rosters are the same.

It will be fun to see how this combination shakes out.
